Rainy Summer

Well.......we certainly have had our share of rain this summer, it's been pretty cool, too, without the usual stretch of sun. When it has been warm, it's been the "hazy, hot and humid" kind of weather. We've probably dumped water out of the patio plants at least a dozen times.......eesh. (The basil is about the only thing that hasn't minded being drenched, and the bog plants, too, of course.)

The sweet fern and pygmy barberry are both quite happy in their new home; it's been painful not being able to pick much sweet fern, but they are so little, we really need to wait.........patience, not my strong suit.......:) I put in a mercy garden on account of so many people passing this spring (six, three of whom I knew well). It looks nice out there behind these guys.

The raspberries are finally producing, about a pint a day, lately, although they are starting to die back, now. I got in the main garden yesterday and removed the ten-foot tall tobacco (I can't believe no-one told me that I shouldn't plant nicotiana in the garden, gosh, the things people won't tell ya'......) as well as the 10-foot tall hollyhock; now the squash, cukes and tomatoes are taking over. My yard kinda reminds me of that science fiction novel: Greener then you think. :) Weird things happen out there..........

Not much else to report, really.......the renovations are coming along, but slowly. I should have my kitchen up and producing by this fall, if all goes well. Gotta get the sign painted and put up. We are also hoping to get in a cold-frame for some winter greens.........we'll see.
